Question with boldness even the existence of a God; because, if there be one, he must more approve of the homage of reason, than that of blind-folded fear. Thomas Jefferson

If I Go Crazy Then...
Yesternight, though I know not wherefore, a thought-memory came unbidden to my mind. Many years ago, and no doubt after some intense study of Colombian horticulture, the great wizard Rico Sanchez and I pondered the creation of a compilation album to compete with the mighty and awful K-Tel corporation. This was long before such wond'rous things as CDs and Itunes, so it was more a thought experiment than anything else. We thought to create a library of all songs that mention The Last Son of Krypton. Back then it would have been very labor, not to mention cost intensive, but today it seems quite possible. Here's where you come in. I need your brains, my musically gifted friends. Think o'nt and if you would send me herein any song you can remember that speaks of the Man of Steel. If you know the band name that's great, but not necessary. Even if you only remember a snippet of the lyrics that's helpful too. Any and all assistance in this regard will be greatly appreciated. And, once the project is complete, I will send you a copy of the disc.
Con mucho gusto,
Marius

"Superman" by REM
"You Don't Mess round with Jim" Jim Croce
If I think of anymore I'll pop back
"Sunshine Superman"
"Superman" by Gruppo Sportivo
from the "Mistakes" album.
Don't know if you'll be able to find it on line. I have it.
I used to play it in the shop boys, do you remember?
Immediately, I thought of "Jimmy Olsen Blues" by the Spin Doctors...
"Kryptonite" by 3 Doors Down also popped into my head.
Also by a "numbered" band, Five for Fighting did "It's Not Easy".
There's "Resignation Superman" by Big Head Todd & the Monsters...
"Waiting for Superman" by the Flaming Lips.
Oh, yeah... From the incomparable "Superman Streisand" album, we have "Superman" (by Barbara Streisand, of course....)
I can't think of any others, offhand.
Duh... didn't even notice the title of your post until I left the comment... So, you already had Kryptonite...
Thought of a bunch more, along with some help from the co-workers. Gonna be a big album...
In "Land of Confusion" by Genesis, the line goes "Superman where are you now..."
Gainesville locals Sister Hazel did a song about Superman, called, appropriately enough "Superman".
I think Alanis Morrisette has a song about him too, but not positive on this one.
"Silver Gun Superman" by STP.
"White Wedding" by Billy Idol.
"Bicycle Race" by Queen.
"Thick as a Brick" by Tull. Nice one. Kudos to the crew...
"Rappers Delight" by the Sugar Hill Gang says something about Superman being a fairy...
Shocking me with this one, they came up with "I Can't Get Started" by Sinatra...
AC/DC mentions "Superman's out of town" in one of their songs, but we can't remember which one.
There was that song by Bonnie Taylor (I think), the theme song from the show "Cover up". "I need a hero" or something like that. Says she needs "a superman to sweep her off of her feet"
Supposedly a song by Bryan Adams that mentions Superman, but they can't remember the name...
Oh, and Weezer mentions something about Superman underwear in that Sweater song.
damn you turtle!!! leave some for us! I was going to say Bicycle Race and bonnie tylers Hero (two classics!)
Hmmmmm...
How about the Scrubs theme? ''I know...that I'm no... superman.''-Superman by Lazlo Bane
I, RICO SANCHEZ, SUMMON THE MYSTICAL FORCES OF THE INTERNET TO DO MY BIDDING!
azlyrics.com lists 170 matches with Superman in the title. "caped crusader" and "man of steel" give more.
Hmmm, figure 4 minutes a song for approx 200 songs. It would take about ten standard CDs. The box set would be just thick enough to stop a speeding bullet ;)
Hey, Rico? While you are, most certainly, one of the kewlest doods alive, and your internetz skillz are amazing (group discussion was more fun...) your geekiness is lacking.
The Caped Crusader is Batman...
sorry no help here... :-(
The Caped Crusader is Batman...
D'oh! I knew that. Sry, was helping middle child with science project at the time.
group discussion was more fun...
Again I fail. U R correct , Sir.
Don't sweat the fails. While all the shelled one says is true, I am actually glad you did the web search thing. If for no other reason than to put into perspective the enormity of the task. I had planned to do just that once everyone had chimed in anyway. The advantage to folks posting their picks is that it tends to weed out stuff that sucks. I now see that this will have to be a 'Superman's Greatest Hits' as opposed to an encyclopedia of songs as originally intended.

I do now.
I still want a copy of that twisted Sgt Pepper's cover album. Genius!
