Bonus Round
Since the movie question garnered such a huge response, here's an addendum. What film did you have the least expectations for, that turned out to be a classic. Personally I'm torn between Ghostbusters and Galaxy Quest. The first came after a string of truly forgettable SNL alumni films(anyone remember Dr. Detroit?), and the second could have easily fallen into the Gorge of Eternal Suckitude. But both films far exceeded expectations and took their rightful places in cinematic Olympus.

Mine would be "Like Water for Chocolate." When I was dragged to it I thought- f this. Subtitles, (hey, I was young) inspired by Mexican soaps- where is the exit? Turned out to be one of my favorite movies ever.
I'd have to say, maybe "Spaceballs"...
I put off seeing Bridget Jones Diary for a few years, and then watched it and thought it was good.
I also didn't want to see Blade, and didn't think of seeing it til my brother got the DVD, so i watched it because i was bored, and loved that. Cheesy vamps and swooshy swords - fantastic!
I agree with you, M, about Ghostbusters and Galaxy Quest. . . I remember us all going to see Ghostbusters and being sure it was soooooo going to suck! I came out of the theatre pleasantly surprised!
