It's All In The Genes

Yesterday I got a birthday card from my brother. Here it is:

This is the same dude who, after I cut the end of my thumb off, presented me with a thimble with a picture hook sticking out of the end to wear. I laughed at that, too.

Yeah, we're both a bit weird.

It still bothers me that your brother and I had the same idea: I went so far as to gather the parts and then thought: hmmm...this might be going just a leeeetle bit over the line. So I decided to hold off, and then heard that your brother had already made his.

Which is when I put the boards together for you. Hey, if we're leaving the line back there somewhere, what's another few strides, right?

Happy birthday, dude.

I kept those boards for more than a decade before space constraints, and a fading of the spatter almost to invisibility, forced me to let them go. Since I get to use the tale in my classes when we get to the safety part, I take great joy in the mixed reactions I get when I tell them how you saved my 'thumb' for me. :-) And thanks for the birthday wishes.

Damn! That was the exact card I was going to get you!!

Actually, I was in the store the other night and glanced at the greeting card section, trying to remember which of my friends was having a birthday soon and should I get them a card, and then said to myself, "Doesn't matter, I won't mail it anyway..."

Happy, happy, dude.

Hope you had a great day, Marius! I meant to send a card, honest. . . but you were in my heart today even though my fingers didn't get around to doing anything about it!
