Unexpected Visitors

One of the groovy things about living in Florida is all the cool wildlife. We have big, beautiful birds, weird giant insects, and reptiles that will annoy, bemuse, and given half a chance, eat you. But the other day this trio wandered through our neighborhood, quite oblivious to the odd sight they made.

Are those wild? Someone within a quarter mile of our house has a pet peacock- that think is LOUD!

Are you in contact with Lucius Malfoy by any chance?

With any luck, they won't say. Peacocks make truly lousy neighbors. Roosters crow at dawn: peacocks crow at dawn, before dawn, after dawn, and pretty much any time they take it in their pea-size brains to let loose with their banshee howl. It's not a pretty song.

They make up for it by producing prodigious amounts of birdshit.

In our old neighborhood, a gang of wild peacocks roamed free and loud. They would also scurry across the roofs of the townhouses..so you'd be there, quietly reading and BAM! (scurry scurry scurry). And when the open those mouths....Wow. and not ONE of them had the decency to drop a feather...I would have forgiven a lot if they'd at least donated some bling...

Surprisingly these guys didn't make a sound during their visit. And I haven't seen them since. I used to live near some peacock owners, and I think the best way to describe the lilting tones of their distinctive song is a bag of wild cats being fed into a wood chipper, only not as melodic.
