I don't think I want that innocence back, though. I like feeling excited and hopeful about my future, and I want to share that with everyone I care about.

Many hugs, Rick. Life may be somewhat frustrating for you now, but I do not doubt there are wonderful parts in it for you too, and that they will continue to grow. Nowadays, I need to know what I'm doing to actually leave the house, before it didn't matter as long as I was out of the house. I miss people getting dressed up to fly on airplanes. I miss how it feels to be a teenager on a Friday night with a newly cashed paycheck and a tankful of gas.

I miss new Pee-Chees that everyone would immediately draw on in exactly the same way -- polka dots on the tennis player's shorts, a knife in the hand of the basketball player, the lead guy on the track team carrying a torch like the one on the Statue of Liberty. And I miss naming the most consistent winners, so it was less a competition between me and my sister (or my son and daughter) and more about marble-e-marble.

I miss Pong. You heard me. Pong. No elaborate storyline. No scantily-clad women or bloody death scenes. Just two lines and a dot.

And, before the era of VCR/DVR or pervasive syndication, I miss that sense of knowing that right after school I had just enough time to heat up a pop-tart in time to watch Gilligan's Island back-to-back with Star Trek.
And it didn't matter if I'd seen them all before. In fact, that only added to the anticipation.

-GAB...Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
